As an Agile Coach with Freeport, you will enable cross-functional, distributed teams to deliver business impact across the processing and mining value chain. Your role is to drive the agile practice maturity and a strong agile mindset within teams and the overall company. You will help facilitate agile ceremonies, coach leaders, remove impediments, shield teams from external distractions, and continuously strengthen teams’ appreciation of agile values and principles. You will be responsible for bringing the Product Owner, Scrum Master and the team members together.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the organization follows agile ways of working authentically, enabling teams to deliver business value with increasing efficiency, through adoption of the right working styles and approaches.
  • Lead the dissemination and implementation of agile ways of working and adoption of agile mindset throughout an organization. Guide teams in the use of agile practices and methodologies. Generate an agile mindset in all staff and teams through conversations, coaching, and role-playing exercises.
  • Coach Product Owners on creating valuable work items based on OKR’s and other ways to track and focus on value.
  • Manage Scrum Masters to establish agile communities across various roles/groups.
  • Influence leadership to drive change; enable Freeport to move more quickly together while building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raise without fear of punishment.
  • Implement agile and lean principles and tools to coach others and implement processes.  Blueprint, implement and measure progress of teams using scaling.
  • Co-facilitate all Agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint review, planning meetings, and team retrospectives) in a way that ensures full team engagement.
  • Champion the drive to remove impediments (e.g., cultural barriers, logistical challenges).  Create effective cross-functional collaboration within the agile teams and the organization at all levels from individual team to org level.
  • Foster self-organization and growth within the team. Foster close cooperation across all team members, encourage cross-training and supporting each other.
  • Enable communication and collaboration inside and outside the team.
  • Shield the team from external interference and ensure the team is fully functional and productive.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s in technical / other industry related analytical subjects and seven (7) years of experience working with Agile practices, leading agile projects as an Agile Coach, Product Owner, and/or Scrum Master OR
  • Master’s Degree in technical/other industry related analytical subjects and five (5) years of experience working with Agile practices, leading agile projects as an Agile Coach, Product Owner, and/or Scrum Master 
  • Experience coaching through SM/PO with a deep knowledge of Agile scaling and understanding when not to apply scaling concepts
  • Experience managing projects using agile and waterfall methodologies
  • Knowledge of best-in-class agile execution practices
  • Deep understanding of agile and lean principles.
  • Strong experience with a variety of approaches and deep, principles-based understanding of Scrum, Kanban and other frameworks.
  • Experience in creating value and outcome based operating models
  • Confident and skilled at navigating the team through road-blocks to complete sprints on time
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate complex messages and teach new concepts at various levels
  • Experience as a coach, leader, mediator and mentor



  • Experience as a team member in agile teams
  • Mining experience
  • Certifications in Change Management and/or Servant Leadership
  • Agile Coach certification (CEC) or Scrum Master certification (CSM)
  • Position is in busy, non-smoking office located in Phoenix, AZ 
  • Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator.  Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting. 
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required. 
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws
