Where You Will Work    

Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, and more. Our flexible work program allows employees to work virtually as well as come together in person when needed at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or one of our site locations. Employees can work remotely from most states in the U.S., with the exception of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-person (office/site) work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time, so long as the position meets the established eligibility for these benefits. 

What You Will Do

As a Sr Health & Safety Policy Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date, effective, and accessible policy documentation that complies with health and safety regulations, while also ensuring thorough communication of policies to all stakeholders. 

  • Oversee policy creation, review, approval, and distribution.
  • Lead policy review meetings and track follow-up actions.
  • Monitor incidents and audits to identify policy improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate policy updates through various channels.
  • Coordinate training updates to reflect policy changes.
  • Ensure alignment with MSHA, OSHA, ISO, and other standards.
  • Manage document translations for global accessibility.
  • Maintain version control and enforce document management protocols.

What You Bring To Freeport

  • HS Diploma/GED and seven (7) years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, Technical Writing, Technical Training, Communications, Regulatory Compliance or a related field; OR 
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, Technical Writing, Technical Training, Communications, Regulatory Compliance or a related field; OR 
  • Master's Degree and one (1) year of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, Technical Writing, Technical Training, Communications, Regulatory Compliance or a related field
  • Create, edit and manage controlled documents such as permits, policies, standard operating procedures, user guides, risk assessments, change management plans, emergency response plans, communication plans, etc. 
  • Ability to review and interpret regulatory or standards documents in order to inform policy changes 
  • Collaborate efficiently on document creation or changes with a multi-departmental team in a virtual setting 
  • Prioritize multiple concurrent projects with minimal oversight 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Microsoft Copilot

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in health and safety field work implementing policies or inspecting policy compliance 
  • 1+ year experience participating in the creation or updating of policies specific to health and safety hazards in an industrial setting 
  • Knowledge of MSHA or OSHA regulations via past experience in either training, implementing, auditing or enforcing these regulations 
  • Previous experience conducting administration of a controlled document library in Microsoft SharePoint or Teams sites involving basic feature proficiency such as permissions management, creating metadata, configuring versioning, customizing document views, etc. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and its “Review” functions such as document compare, document markup, track changes, and comments to manage document review/edit process 
  • Previous experience using compliance task tracking software (i.e. Enablon Compliance Module) 
  • Multi-lingual (Spanish)

What We Offer You 

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $85,000-$116,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
