EL ABRA

EL ABRA

Copper Mine
Region of Antofagasta, Chile

Find out about what opportunities are available at our El Abra open-pit mining complex, located 75.6 Kilometers North of Calama in Chile. The mining operations in El Abra include extraction / electrodeposition solutions, a leachate circuit of 125,000 metric tons per day and leachate operations as it leaves the mine. In operation since 1996, El Abra has a very promising future. We continue to carry out pre-feasibility studies so that a large scale crushing operation can process additional sulfur materials.  In recent years, the analyzed results  in El Abra indicate the existence of a significant sulfur resource, which could possibly support the large scale crusher project.

CERRO VERDE

CERRO VERDE

Copper and Molybdenum Mining Complex
Arequipa, Peru Complex

Cerro Verde is an open-pit Copper and Molybdenum mining complex that has been in operation since 1976. It is located 20 miles Southwest of Arequipa Peru. Currently, Cerro Verde consists of an open pit mine; a concentrator of 120,000 metric tons per day and leaching facilities for extraction / electrodeposition of solutions. The copper production of leaching is obtained from leachate facilities of 39,000 metric tons per day an from a leaching system as it leaves the mine.  We are in a large scale expansion process that will triple the concentrator's capacity to 360,000 metric tons per day, providing a gradual increase in annual production of 600 million pounds of copper and 15 million pounds of Molybdenum as of 2016. In addition, activities are being carried out in a wastewater treatment plant for the city of Arequipa, which will be used to complement the existing water sources and thus support the expansion of the concentrate.  Freeport-McMoRan has a 53.56% stake at Cerro Verde. SMM Cerro Verde Netherlands B.V. is a subsidiary of Sumimoto Metal Mining and has 21% stake and the Compania de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A., with 19.58%. The remaining 5.86% are held by other shareholders, whose shares are listed on the Lima Stock Exchange.
