Description

Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and guidance for environmental projects and programs at assigned site.

 

  • Assists in installation, operation, and maintenance of environmental monitoring instruments and testing equipment
  • Analyzes data for compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Evaluates and assesses environmental risk and assists in developing programs for risk reduction
  • Participates in regular audits and inspections of operations areas for purposes of ensuring compliance with regulatory programs, site environmental policies, procedures and requirements of the Environmental Management System
  • Collaborates in recommending appropriate action to management in compliance with regulations
  • Prepares and maintains detailed records and files of environmental data and communications
  • Develops and maintains basic working knowledge of national, regional, and local environmental occupation health and other applicable regulations
  • Develops a basic knowledge of site environmental policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the timely recycling and disposition of materials and other company assets in compliance with applicable legal and other requirements
  • Tracks and reports the recycling and disposition of materials and other company assets as directed
  • May provide leadership to technicians as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience in Environmental Monitoring, Sampling and Reporting as an Environmental Technician or in a closely related role
  • Additional certification or licensure appropriate to the job may be required or preferred (US examples include: HAZWOPER, Method 9, DOT, EMS Auditor, Asbestos, Water Treatment Operator, or CHMM)

Preferred

  • Colorado Certified Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) at or above the following levels or ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment:
  • Industrial Wastewater Treatment Class B
  • Water Treatment Class B
  • Water Distribution Class 1
  • Domestic Wastewater Treatment Class C
  • Domestic Wastewater Collection Class 1
  • Demonstration of critical thinking skills such as analyzing operational data to determine changes and improvements for more efficient operation
  • Can independently maintain a compliance schedule and associated sampling obligations
  • Experience supervising personnel (preferably water operators related to water treatment facilities)
  • Experience with internal and external stakeholder engagement such as maintenance departments and regulatory agencies, respectively
  • Ideal candidate can demonstrate definitive decisions for necessary operational or mechanical adjustments to stakeholders
  • Experience with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for optimal system operation and ability to develop or update existing documents
  • Be able to provide cross-training to operators
  • Be able to continue to stay informed about the latest operational and regulatory requirements and should maintain their licenses/certifications to operate the system more effectively and ensure system compliance
  • Experience assisting in the planning associated with construction, operation, and maintenance of a water or wastewater facility
  • Ability to support other Colorado operations as needed

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Compensation:

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $69,000-$94,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.

  • Site-based positions, or positions which require unescorted access to site-based operational areas, which are held by employees who are required to receive MSHA, OSHA, DOT, HAZWOPER and/or Hazard Recognition Training; or
