What You Will Do

You are a highly skilled mechanical maintenance employee who applies a broad level of process and mechanical/maintenance knowledge to maximize, and where possible improve, the efficiency of the overall production process while working autonomously under minimal supervision with the primary objective of safe production. Among these workers are machinists, heavy machinery mechanics, skilled automotive technicians, certified welders, pump rebuild mechanics and specialized maintenance mechanic personnel. In this role, you perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities, complete work orders, order parts, and maintain maintenance documentation. You repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on process equipment such as pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, and filters, including equipment lubrication. You will apply advanced skills in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, bearings, basic metallurgy, conveyor systems, plumbing, alignment, machine shop practices, blueprints, schematics, and mobile equipment; operate small and large cranes using safe rigging practices. Follow and understand safety, environmental, and SOP requirements, participate in safety and environmental activities, and use plant and equipment correctly at all times. You also mentor or train other mechanical workers and perform additional duties as assigned based on business need.

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist, or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance
  • Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, ARC, Oxy-acetylene)
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, plumbing, machine shop practices, blueprints, schematics, fabrication, part lists, and repair
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience operating larger than 20-ton mobile crane
  • Certified in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc)
  • Previous experience in chemical manufacturing and/or processing industry
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in repairing and diagnosing pumping systems, including positive displacement, centrifugal, pneumatic, and vertical pumps
  • Previous hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and replacing screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and heavy rotating equipment
  • Ability to operate in a machine shop setting using a Lathe, Mill, Drill Press, etc.
  • Ability to fabricate steel structures
  • Perform project leadership 

What We Offer You 

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $29.50 - $39.50/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.  What We Require   

  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.

  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.   
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to sixty-five (65) pounds) during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required
