What You Will Do

Responsible for the end‑to‑end leadership of the autonomous haulage program at the site, including operational integration, system performance, and long‑term program sustainability. This role governs the autonomous operational system, people, technology, processes, and partners, ensuring the system operates safely, reliably, and aligned with mine plans and corporate autonomous strategy.

  • In this role, you provide end‑to‑end leadership of the Autonomous Haulage Program, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation through disciplined governance, operating standards, and performance oversight.
  • You lead autonomous safety and risk management, including AOZ controls, critical risk verification, incident investigation, learning, and continuous improvement of autonomous and mixed‑traffic operating practices.
  • As the Chief Autonomous Haulage Programs, you drive cross‑functional integration across Mine Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Dispatch, Technology/OEM, and Planning partners to align mine plans, system readiness, equipment availability, and production targets.
  • You establish and monitor autonomous system performance, including KPIs for safety, availability, utilization, reliability, and productivity, leveraging operational and system data to identify risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
  • You lead, coach, and develop supervisors and technical leaders supporting autonomous haulage operations, ensuring role clarity, competency development, and performance accountability across the autonomous organization.
  • You also lead program evolution and change management, including readiness for system upgrades, technology enhancements, and operating model changes aligned with corporate autonomous strategy, and perform other duties as requested.

What You Bring To Freeport

  • High School Diploma or GED and twelve (12) years of related operational experience including supervisory or management experience; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, autonomous systems, data analytics, or a related technical or operational discipline and eight (8) years of related operational experience including supervisory or management experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in engineering, business, autonomous systems, data analytics, or a related technical or operational discipline and six (6) years of related operational experience including supervisory or management experience.
  • Knowledge of autonomous haulage systems and the integration of people, processes, and technology within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of technology enabled operations, including automation, control systems, data flows, and system performance monitoring.
  • Understanding of operational risk management, safety management systems, and regulatory compliance within an industrial or mining setting.
  • Familiarity with cross functional operating models, including coordination between operations, maintenance, engineering, and external technology partners.
  • Ability to understand interactions between autonomous technology, mine plans, human interfaces, and operational constraints.
  • Proficiency in performance management, including defining KPIs, interpreting operational and system data, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Skilled in problem solving and decision making under conditions of uncertainty, system degradation, or operational risk.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience leading or supporting Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) or large-scale automation initiatives in mining or heavy industry.
  • Experience partnering with OEMs, technology vendors, and corporate technical teams to sustain system performance and implement enhancements.
  • Experience using operational and system performance data to drive continuous improvement, reliability, and risk reduction.

What We Offer You 

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $120,000-$167,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance.  Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration.  Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements.  More details will be shared during the hiring process. Click here to view a sample of Total Rewards Estimate for this role.
