What You Will Do

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Geology department, including the direct coaching of personnel involved in the design and execution of exploration, resource modeling, development and mine Geology programs.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to the Geology department
  • Initiate and direct drill programs, the preparation of short- and long-term resource models that meet corporate model standards, slope stability studies, geological reports,and recommendations of geological and exploration initiatives to management
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets that are adequate to complete projects
  • Provide technical support to Mine Operations and short- and long-range planning
  • Communicate performance standards, establish performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports
  • Ensure alignment of Geology goals with the organizational business objectives and goals
  • Liaison between Geology and other disciplines when required
  • Ensure safe work environment and safe practices
  • May represent the site on Company-sponsored steering teams
  • Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related Scientific discipline and seven (7) years of experience in Geology or related Scientific field, OR
  • Master's degree in Geology and five (5) years of experience in Geology or related Scientific field
  • A successful track record in design and management of exploration and advanced development programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in design, management and completion of computerized resource models
  • Supervisory experience with excellent and creative problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex geological analyses
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred

  • Mine to mill or geo-metallurgical experience
  • Experience with ore control, geologic modeling, and drilling projects
  • Experience in active mine operations or near mine operations 
  • Ability to manage team of 20 or more
  • Ability to manage budget for geology department

What We Offer You 

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $112,000-$160,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance.  Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration.  Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements.  More details will be shared during the hiring process. Click here to view a sample of Total Rewards Estimate for this role.
