Where You Will Work    

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

Description

Under general supervision, facilitates a variety of complex engineering projects including data collection and monitoring, maintenance, surveillance activities, and others as needed to support operations at an assigned site.

  • Manage the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of field instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
  • Manage data and assist with problem-solving requiring basic theories and engineering fundamentals.
  • Utilize computer programs to solve engineering problems and maintain proper documentation.
  • Oversee acquisition of automated and manual field instrumentation and survey data.
  • Perform technical evaluation of equipment, troubleshoot and perform maintenance of installed instrumentation
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation.
  • Manage survey and mapping projects (with GPS, total station, drone).
  • Provide training and guidance to technicians and engineers on the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment.
  • May work with vendors and contractors in the support of data collection and interpretation of data
  • Provide backup support for Engineers in analysis and processes as required
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five (5) years of experience in an engineering or technical area relevant to the assignment.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Ability to develop good working relationships within own team and folks from various other departments.
  • Skilled in safely using, maintaining, and repairing specialized equipment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience with maintaining and repairing radars, GPS equipment, total stations, piezometers
  • Aptitude for computers and/or electronics

 

Criteria/Conditions:

  • This is a safety sensitive role
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $37.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
