Title:  Field Apprentice I - Boilermaker/Welder Repair

Description

A hands-on learning experience for individuals who have completed a classroom based mechanical/welding training program. This program includes a combination of minimal classroom courses focused on Freeport-McMoRan policies and procedures and on-the-job training designed to develop selected candidates into highly skilled and professional trade employees. Successful candidates are responsible for hands-on learning and performing maintenance/welding/operations activities with minimal to moderate supervision, or supports journeymen in their maintenance activities.

• Perform basic mechanical/welding maintenance activities
• Perform safe operation of maintenance mobile equipment such as forklifts, stingertrucks and overhead and mobile cranes
• Perform work area and equipment safety inspections
• Attend required classroom training sessions as necessary
• Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Completion of, or graduation from one of the following:
  • A structured mechanical/welding apprenticeship program
  • A certified mechanical/welding training institute; OR
  • Completion of a Joint Technical Education District (JTED) program
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Lineof Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and haveexperience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shalldemonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.
• Basic mechanical/welding maintenance principles

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous maintenance/welding experience in an industrial setting

Criteria/Conditions:

• Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremesin temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals,explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstratemanual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
• Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)during the course of the workday.
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor,manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses,safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, glovesand any other protective equipment as required.
• Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use ofmandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
• Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator.Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting.
