Where You Will Work
Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description
Under general direction plans, organizes, manages and controls the environmental programs and systems for the assigned site.
- Develops, implements, and assesses the environmental and land and water programs
- Leads a diverse team of environmental professionals to meet both the environmental compliance and strategic needs of the site
- Uses leadership tools to develop environmental professionals into future leaders
- Participates as integral member of the Senior Leadership Team to provide guidance and counsel the team on applicable environmental programs, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations
- Ensures the business unit has the support, resources, and information necessary for success
- Utilizes analytical skills to make effective decisions while considering the impact of the decisions elsewhere in the organization
- Reports environmental compliance issues and makes recommendations to appropriate site management for correction
- Lead the sustainability development programs for the site to ensure they are in alignment with the ICMM SD Principles
- Serves as the Management Representative for the sites ISO 14001 environmental management system
- Directs, develops, and monitors environmental practices for the site
- Investigates and maintains records of environmental incidents and responses as required by law
- Contributes to site strategic planning (including growth project permitting) and budgeting efforts for environmental systems and issues
- Represents site, Freeport-McMoRan or the mining industry on steering teams, task force's, committees etc. on an as needed basis
- Acts as a safety and environmental champion, leads by example, participates in health, safety and environment activities and corrects/coaches unsafe conditions and behaviors among subordinates and others
- Drive change in the environmental program with a focus on continual improvement
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline (such as Environmental, Civil, or Chemical) or a related natural science (such as biology, chemistry or environmental science) or mathematics
- Ten (10) years experience in environmental management
- Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, incident investigation and reporting protocols
- Working knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local regulations; ability to access rules and statutes quickly and provide practical interpretations
- Be able to function both independently and in a team scenario; be able to both lead and follow, as appropriate. Skill in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
- Be skilled in project management, including the management of customer expectations
- Demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and deal with multiple concurrent projects with a clear understanding of priorities
- Perform work in a timely manner so as to satisfy customer expectations
- Be self-motivated and client service oriented
- Have excellent written skills
- Excellent oral skills in one-on-one and group situations
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, employees, regulatory officials, and the general public
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate appropriate analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to work with general office equipment such as a personal computer and keyboard, facsimile machines and photocopier ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Focused on goal achievement
Preferred
- Experience with environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, State/Federal, NEPA, etc.)
- Experience working in an industrial facility and ability to manage a dynamic operation and regulatory setting
- Strong leadership skills with supervising staff of varying experience and disciplines
- Project Management experience
What We Offer You
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $126,500.00-$177,000.00. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
