Where You Will Work   

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

Highly skilled employees in the mechanical maintenance craft who applies a broad level of process and mechanical/maintenance knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process.  Among these workers are machinists, heavy machinery mechanics, skilled automotive technicians, certified welders, pump rebuild mechanics and specialized maintenance mechanic personnel. Employee will work autonomously under required supervision where the primary objective is safe production.

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities
  • Complete Work Orders and other maintenance documentation
  • Ability to repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, and perform preventative maintenance of process equipment i.e. pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters, etc.  Capable of performing equipment lubrication.
  • Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, bearings, conveyor systems, plumbing, alignment, machine shop, and mobile equipment.  Qualified to operate small and large cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices.
  • Follows and understands MSHA and/or OSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times.
  • Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid State driver’s license with the ability to obtain a CDL certification within 90 days of hire date
  • FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while achieving 35% score on a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety. Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
  • HEM Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.
  • Shovel/Drill Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.
  • Proficiency in welding/cutting (MIG, TIG, ARC, Oxy-acetylene) 
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, plumbing, machine shop, blue prints, schematics, fabrication, and part lists and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience operating larger than 20 ton mobile crane
  • Certified in welding (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc)

 

Criteria/Conditions:

  • This is a Safety sensitive role
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shock, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles.
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined spaces.
  • Occasionally may be asked required to life moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  • Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.  
  • Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $28.00 - $38.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
