Reporting to the Manager, Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ / PB4) production blocks in all aspects of underground caving operations including undercut / drawbell drilling and blasting activities as well as the implementation of long hole drill improvements. This Technical Expert role requires not only technical expertise, but also the ability to transfer knowledge to others within the organization in a multicultural environment. This position involves gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Indonesian and Papuan culture, as well as building relationships, solving problems creatively as a team, and effectively communicating in different styles. The Technical Expert must also have a continuous learning mindset, be patient, adaptable, and able to work in an environment where work and personal life mix. Additionally, a strong sense of collaboration, mentoring, coaching, questioning, and influencing skills are essential for success in this role.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Train supervisors and crews in all aspects of caving activities, i.e., long hole drilling, blasting, scheduling etc., to promote their skill and knowledge in caving and increase their quality of work.
- Control all activities in the assigned area to ensure that all work in the areas of responsibility is carried out safely and on time.
- Monitor and control the performance and the activities of the supervisors and crews to identify the areas for improvement and to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Prepare a regular report for leadership which provides clear progress and status updates of the crew’s performance and the activities within the group.
- Control the DMLZ caving drilling, blasting, and undercutting and draw belling activities to ensure they are executed safely, efficiently and the targets are achieved.
- Preserve coordination between technical, engineering, maintenance and all related parties.
- Support and assist in the skills development and career advancement of the assigned counterpart(s) as well as other national employees, potentially including creating and managing developmental plans.

- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering with ten (10) years of experience in underground mining practices and supervision Or High School diploma and fifteen (15) years of experience in underground mining practices as a front-line supervisor.
- In-depth understanding of underground block caving practices as well as experience complying with safety procedures is required.
- Technically sound in underground production mining methods with the desire and ability to transfer knowledge to national workforce.
- Fluent in English (oral and written) and willing to learn Bahasa Indonesia.
- Ability to work in a culturally diversified workforce.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Ability to influence through relationships, as formal / positional authority is limited.
- Ability to adapt and live in an area where work life and personal life continuously mix.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills with the operation of Sandvik DL422i and DL432i Solos is preferred as this is the equipment in use at PTFI.
- Experience with Deswik CAD and MDM preferred but not essential.
