Our internship program is tailored to full-time students currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university and recent graduates in North America. Internships are temporary full-time paid positions and typically run from May through August.

Description

Under general supervision, perform accounting and financial activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Freeport-McMoRan policies and procedures. The position requires the prioritization of multiple projects, workload and specific deadlines; ability to successfully complete delegated tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Assist Tax Department personnel with various projects including federal and state tax provisions, performing data analysis and other similar accounting work
  • Work on large spreadsheets and Excel calculations
  • Analyze Excel data flows and other financial-related information
  • Recommend enhancements to processes and procedures
  • Assist personnel with general financial analysis, reporting and ad hoc requests
  • Performing other duties as required

 

Although the Accounting department is based out of our headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2021 this will be a remote internship working with your team virtually. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university majoring in Accounting; OR

  • Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in Accounting

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Possesses strong data analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Highly accurate and detail oriented

  • General familiarity with financial reporting requirements, rules and regulations

  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure

  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment

  • Must be able to demonstrate our core values of honesty, fairness, respect, trust, and integrity

Preferred

  • Strong understanding of Excel tools such as VLOOKUP and other formulas used in complex calculations
  • Power Query and/or Power BI experience is ideal
  • Interest in Tax preferred but not required

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in an office, mine, or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug / alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable state laws
