Internships are temporary full-time paid positions and typically run from May through August.
Please note: At the sole discretion of the company, this position has the possibility to work remotely up to 100% of the time from anywhere within the United States, except California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma as well as other states based on business factors. This position may require occasional travel to the Phoenix corporate offices and/or site locations throughout the United States.
Description
Under general supervision, performs purchasing tasks in accordance with standard techniques, procedures, and criteria but may be called upon to perform other procurement discipline tasks as required. These tasks include:
- Responsible for assigned purchasing, expediting, and logistics coordination of the assigned packages/requisitions/purchase orders
- Incorporates standard FMMC procurement procedures and strategies in the procurement of goods for the project.
- Responsible for the execution of all procurement activities of the assigned packages and works with cross functional departments to ensure plans, budgets, and schedules are being achieved.
- Interacts with the Project Procurement Lead, discipline leads, and vendors on a day-to-day basis to meet project procurement objectives.
- Collaborates with project team on strategic procurement and supply chain solutions
- Develops best total cost of ownership sources strategies and leverages FMMC’s Strategic Supplier Relationships
- Perform purchasing tasks in accordance with FMMC’s standard techniques and procedures
- Bidders Lists
- Requests for Quotation (RFQs)
- Supplier bids
- Commercial Evaluations
- Purchase Orders and Change Orders
- Material Status Reports
- RFQ Status Reports
- Expediting status reports
- Critical correspondence with vendor
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Full-time student currently enrolled in an appropriate Bachelor's degree program at an accredited four-year university; OR
- Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with an appropriate Bachelor's degree
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Knowledge of purchasing rules, regulations, inventory control systems and methods, forms purchase orders and accounts payable processes
- Ability to research and gather information related to vendors, contracts, equipment and supplies
- Ability to use computer databases to research, maintain and update records and files
- Able to operate a variety of light equipment, hand trucks and vehicles within a warehouse environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Able to use a variety of computer software, including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft office suite)
- Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field
Criteria/Conditions:
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
- Work is in an office, mine, or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
- Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre- employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable state laws
Compensation:
The estimated pay range for this role is currently $20.75 - $26.85/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.
