Where You Will Work    

 

Freeport-McMoRan is a leading international metals company with global headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in accounting and finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, engineering, and more. Our hybrid internship program allows interns to work virtually as well as come together in person regularly at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or our site locations. Interns participating in our hybrid internship program will be expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance – 50 miles one-way – of the company’s corporate offices to ensure availability when meeting attendance/collaboration is needed. Interns living more than 50 miles away would be required to relocate and would be eligible for travel and housing assistance. 

What You Will Do

Under general supervision, performs project work that assists the Corporate Development department.  

The position requires assisting senior corporate professionals in day-to-day operations. Summarize and draft legal and business documents, conduct industry research, attend and observe meetings, conference calls, and manage assigned projects. Conduct legal research, assist on projects, and review and summarize correspondence and legal documents to support Corporate Development department.

  • Assist with management of corporate, exploration, and government affairs, including review of mining law reforms internationally, environmental assessment of mining projects and preparing management presentations and reviewing/preparing corporate documents with government authorities, mining association and other stakeholders. 
  • Assist with supporting business transactions, including review of legal documents, legal and environmental due diligence and coordinating with multiple discipline teams, including legal, financial, and technical personnel on project evaluation, execution and integration processes. Support management of international business relations of company’s strategic partners. 
  • Attend meetings and travel as requested by Manager; create reports on proceedings; and analyze and organize business records 

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing degree, bachelor’s or higher, in law or closely related field; OR 
  • Recent graduate (within 12 months prior to internship start date) with a degree, bachelor’s or higher, in law or closely related field.  
  • Ability and willingness to keep client and department matters strictly confidential  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Excellent skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced office and effectively work with time  
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Spanish (written and spoken)

  • The estimated pay range for this role is currently $20.50-$25.00/hour. Individual pay rates will be based on level of education and relevant experience.
