Please note: This position has the possibility of working remotely within 150 miles of Phoenix, Arizona for a percentage of the scheduled work time, as determined by the supervisor. Description

Under general supervision, support company’s product stewardship efforts related to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) development and update. Manage the SDS life cycle by collaborating with key stakeholders such as Product Stewardship, Environmental, Sales, Planning, Transportation, and Site Operations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and usability.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and update Safety Data Sheets and labels for company products and process intermediates to comply with global standards related to safety, health, environmental, transportation in all relevant countries, in compliance with regulations, industry standards, and company requirements.
  • Manage a system to record the rationale for company legal/regulatory positions on product classifications according to Globally Harmonized System, European Union’s REACH regulations, International Maritime Organization standards, UN standard for land transportation, and applicable national regulations.
  • Manage a system to drive efficient and effective review and approval of new/modified company SDSs by appropriate subject matter experts from H&S, Environmental, Transportation, Sustainable Development, Sales, Logistics, and site Operations.
  • Use of MeClas and Intelligent Authoring software to classify and develop SDSs for company products.
  • Facilitate legal review by outside experts to inform company positions on product classifications.
  • Develop and present materials for stakeholders and product users such as information on the updates or new products, Hazard Communication training, and customer inquiries.
  • Gather and interpret analytical data from site operations, metallurgists, and other mineral processing departments such as TC and CASC.
  • Manage SDS versions using Comply Plus (Sphera) software for document control.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of Freeport-McMoRan, ISO 45001, Responsible Care, OSHA, MSHA, GHS, REACH, Copper Mark, and other regulations and standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Health, or closely related scientific or technical discipline and three (3) years of experience in Industrial Hygiene or related field; OR
  • Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Health, or closely related scientific or technical discipline and one (1) year of experience in Industrial Hygiene or related field

 

Criteria/Conditions:

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws

  • Site-based positions, or positions which require unescorted access to site-based operational areas, which are held by employees who are required to receive MSHA, OSHA, DOT, HAZWOPER and/or Hazard Recognition Training; or
  • Positions which are held by employees who operate equipment, machinery or motor vehicles in furtherance of performing the essential functions of their job duties, including operating motor vehicles while on Company business or travel (for this purpose "motor vehicles" includes Company owned or leased motor vehicles and personal vehicles used by employees in furtherance of Company business or while on Company travel); or
  • Positions which Freeport-McMoRan has designated as safety sensitive positions in the applicable job or position description and which upon further review continue to be designated as safety-sensitive based on an individualized assessment of the actual duties performed by a specifically identified employee.
