Where You Will Work    

Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support global operations in finance, human resources, information technology, planning and more from the main office, satellite offices or online. As a Hybrid employee, you’ll engage in virtual collaboration as well as attend in-person meetings at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix or at one of our site locations. The Collaboration Hub provides an open, flexible workspace for individuals and teams to come together for various business needs. Amenities at the Hub include a working café, phone booths and meeting rooms with technology tools for virtual and in-person collaboration. In-person attendance may vary based on the position and department requirements.

What You Will Do

This role is responsible for advancing alignment with Freeport’s global social performance strategy across its international operations in Indonesia, South America, and Europe. The position leads and supports the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of social performance initiatives at each site, maintaining continuous dialogue to identify opportunities for improvement. Key focus areas include strengthening community relations, enhancing social investment efforts, and improving risk management practices to ensure consistent, effective social performance across all designated locations.

  • Strategy Development & Implementation: Provide leadership, input, support and problem-solving guidance and oversight of all areas of Social Performance for the identified operations maintain and enhance social license to operate, with a significant focus on social risk management and mitigation. Work actively with sites to understand fit for purpose approaches to meeting strategy while maintaining alignment. Lead the implementation and localization of social performance evaluation and reporting initiatives aligned with corporate goals and site objectives.
  • Management System Oversight: Drive the implementation and adoption of the FCX Social Performance Management System (SPMS) at sites, including use of supporting tools. Act as the primary liaison to share site feedback and recommend adjustments. Work collaboratively with sites and cross functionally at corporate to participate in the identification and update of social risks addressed in the site Sustainability Risk Register process, as well as the Project Development Risk Register process. Collaborate with Manager Risk & Management Systems and Manager Sustainability Digital Systems to develop and utilize software systems to support management system implementation while providing consistency and transparency across sites.
  • Program Development & Oversight / Capacity Building: Promote best practices and knowledge sharing across operations. Advances issues and programs of importance to the company and its operations; includes the development of “cross-enterprise” programs or initiatives with NGOs or other partners. Identify opportunities to partner with bi-lateral/multi-lateral agencies that would benefit operations and strengthen local capacity. Lead, innovate and consult on new partnerships and approaches for cultivating and/or facilitating the process of moving communities (and their leaders) from dependency on operations to long term resilience. Monitors and responds to social issues, impacts, and risks that will or could affect operations. In collaboration with site leadership, identify value added opportunities to enhance reputation in social performance area.
  • Internal Business Coordination: Establish strong relationships with site level social performance team and leadership to operationalize the risk register and stakeholder management processes, enabling early identification of risks. s. Work directly across the Sustainability team on a routine basis to seek feedback, provide guidance, develop strategies and execute work. Continually liaise with key internal support groups such as Human Resources, Environmental Services, Communications, Health and Safety, Energy/Land/Water, etc. to ensure robust understanding and coordination of activities that have a potential social impact or opportunity, while also continuously identifying/validating the company’s/operation’s business needs that can be supported by various social performance activities. Drive and lead internal collaboration required to address risk issues in multiple areas that have a social nexus.

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Legal, Environmental, Engineering, Human Rights, International Development, Business, or related field and fifteen (15) years of experience in sustainability related management, environmental or related field; OR
  • Master’s degree in Sustainability, Legal, Environmental, Engineering, Human Rights, International Development, Business, or related area and ten (10) years of experience in environmental or sustainability management or related field.
  • Extensive experience identifying and managing social performance–related risks within the mining or extractives sector.
  • Deep understanding of international frameworks relevant to global operations, with demonstrated ability to translate them into effective strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and drive cross‑functional strategies.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation, with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical capabilities, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills.
  • Highly skilled communicator, including presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to promoting best practices and constructively challenging processes to drive improvement.
  • Strong creativity, strategic thinking, analytical problem‑solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally up to 40%, including to remote mining locations.
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa (written and verbal required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business skills/acumen relevant to the mining sector.
  • Experience in implementing Social Performance Management Systems in the mining sector.
  • Experience evaluating the effectiveness of social investments.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish.

Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance.  Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration.  Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements.  More details will be shared during the hiring process.
