Description
The first level of a 3-year program that includes a combination of formal classroom courses and on-the-job training designed to develop selected candidates into highly skilled and professional trade employees.  Responsible for learning and performing minor maintenance/operations activities independently, with minimal supervision, or support journeymen in their maintenance activities.
 
  • Attend required classroom training sessions.
  • Perform on-the-job training activities in appropriate discipline.
  • Perform safe operation of maintenance mobile equipment such as forklifts, stinger trucks and overhead and mobile cranes.
  • Perform work area and equipment safety inspections
  • Perform other duties as requested
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must pass the math qualifying test

Preferred

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of J-TED and/or other technical program related to the mechanical/electrical trade
  • Completion of coursework in the mechanical/electrical field
  • One (1) year of previous verifiable experience in the mechanical/electrical field

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
  • Employee may be required to work in environments that may include exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, noise, fumes, and gasses
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday
  • May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing

  • Positions which Freeport-McMoRan has designated as safety sensitive positions in the applicable job or position description and which upon further review continue to be designated as safety-sensitive based on an individualized assessment of the actual duties performed by a specifically identified employee.
